Tiny Devotional for Monday, 12-07-2020: Pearl Harbor Day

A great good morning, to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, today is Pearl Harbor Day.

Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
And call understanding your intimate friend,
So that they may keep you from an adulteress,
From the foreigner who flatters with her words.
Proverbs 7:4-5, NASB

MY WISE SISTERS

Consider the adulteress and the foreigner:
  • The adulteress is in a position of intimate trust, which she violates. 
  • The foreigner doesn’t have that position, but seeks it, by devious means.

Wisdom and understanding protect us from both. Seeking them requires work on our part.

Pearl Harbor Day is a good day to think about this. 

I plan to watch two versions of “December 7th,” a 1943 movie directed by John Ford and Gregg Toland.  
The original, run-time of 81:52, was never released.  The edited version, with a 32:27 run-time, won an Oscar in 1944. 
One easily-accessed source (which I frequently use) says the original asked embarrassing questions about our failure to prepare, and spent a lot of time devoted to the culture of the Japanese-Americans living in Hawaii. Therefore it was censored. 
Oh, WICKED censors! Hiding our failure to prepare, and hating on Japanese-American culture!

Another source states much of the deleted footage depicted “everyday Japanese-Americans as lying in wait to collect information from unsuspecting tongue-flappers.” It wasn’t censored; it was a race-baiting disaster that could NOT be released.

I’m going to call wisdom my sister, and watch both versions.

If the first source lies, it’s an adulteress. If the second source lies, it’s a foreigner.

To avoid adulteress problems: 
  • Don’t marry one. 
  • If a person (or organization) betrays you, terminate the relationship; or, 
  • Learn to live with betrayal.

A great good morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, Piper doesn’t like her food.  A great good morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, reach for the sky. Do not let your heart envy sinners, But live in the fear of the Lord always. Surely there is a future, And your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 23:17-18, NASB Today’s verse is 18, but I included 17, because I THINK they are a couplet. I wrote about verse 17 last month, and will try not to repeat myself. Our senses describe the present, our memory describes the past; the future is described by our hopes and our fears. In this little verse, we are given one of the strongest foundations for peace: yes, you DO have a future, and it’s a good one. Under most circumstances, we take the future for granted.
