Tiny Devotional for Thursday, 07-08-2021

 A great good morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, Fred brought croissants.

All the words of my mouth are in righteousness;
There is nothing crooked or perverted in them.
Proverbs 8:8, NASB


That’s a pretty amazing claim; it starts with ‘all.’ When I was a youth, learning about logic and how to argue persuasively, one of the principles was that the use of words like ‘always’ tended to make a point unbelievable. I’ve found that to be the case, more often than not; I can’t even get my fan to work right, always. 

But in this particular case, it’s essential. We are hearing Wisdom speak; either ALL of her words are pure truth, or you rally have no basis for believing any of them. It’s not like your car, which can drive just fine, even if the automatic door locks don’t work. 

So, what makes Wisdom different, from all of the other sources that scream for our attention? I’m old enough to remember 1960s chain letters, delivered by the US Postal Service, promising riches if you spread them, and disaster if you broke the chain. Then there were those 1980s accusations of devil worship against a company, based on a logo of a moon and stars. And then, the Internet happened, and every nut found a soapbox.

The difference: 

Wisdom has the credentials.  

The way you know someone is legitimate is by what they have done, not by what they have said. In the rest of this chapter, Wisdom provides her resume, and it’s pretty amazing. 

So, when you want to go beyond facts and opinions, and find the Truth, may I suggest you see what Wisdom has to say?

 A great good morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, reach for the sky. Do not let your heart envy sinners, But live in the fear of the Lord always. Surely there is a future, And your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 23:17-18, NASB Today’s verse is 18, but I included 17, because I THINK they are a couplet. I wrote about verse 17 last month, and will try not to repeat myself. Our senses describe the present, our memory describes the past; the future is described by our hopes and our fears. In this little verse, we are given one of the strongest foundations for peace: yes, you DO have a future, and it’s a good one. Under most circumstances, we take the future for granted.
