Tiny Devotional for Wednesday, 08-11-2021

A great good morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, it’s only turkey sausage; sorry.

Riches do not benefit on the day of wrath,
But righteousness rescues from death.

Proverbs 11:4, NASB

In writing the Tiny Devotionals, I ALWAYS want to let the Bible speak, and ignore whatever is the world is saying. Today, though, there is a clear intersection of current events with ancient wisdom.

Riches
A Prominent Governor of a Prominent State enjoyed both political favor and personal wealth. His job performance inspired support from the public, and within his political party.  He was certain to win re-election, and his name was mentioned as a presidential candidate. His personal wealth permitted him to obtain the services of the best lawyers and advisors.

The Day of Wrath
Prompted by complaints from several women, an investigation sought to determine whether  Prominent Governor had sexually harassed women who worked for him.
Initially, Prominent Governor denied all allegations, stating that he was a protector of women, and not a predator. He pointed to his advocacy of programs benefiting women as evidence of this, and predicted that the investigation would find no misconduct.
The investigation determined that Prominent Governor was guilty of sexually harassing 11 women, 9 of whom worked for him. He initially claimed the investigation was biased. Yesterday, however, he submitted his resignation.

Conclusions:

  • My opinion is that riches intoxicated Prominent Governor with the sense that he could do anything. YMMV.
  • Riches are an appropriate defense against manifestations of physical poverty, but not against moral poverty. Pay-offs to those harmed solve nothing.
  • Accusations can be leveled at anyone; when the Day of Wrath arrives, the ONLY defense is righteousness.

Peace be on your household.
