Tiny Devotional for Monday, 10-25-2021

A great good morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, it’s just Monday; we will be okay.

Take away the impurities from the silver,
And there comes out a vessel for the smith;
Take away the wicked before the king,
And his throne will be established in righteousness.

Proverbs 25:4-5, NASB

I know a tiny bit about purifying metals (not silver, but the principles are the same), some about bosses, and not much about heads of state. I’m going to use the term “boss” instead of king (not kings, but MAYBE the principles are the same). As always, YMMV.

Simplified version: Apply enough heat to metal, and some impurities get burned off, while others will float to the top (or bottom), where they can be removed.

If we apply metaphorical heat to the boss, will the wicked depart?

Wait: which wicked are we speaking of?

I’ve seen at least four crisis/scandals in the White House, and in NO case was there anyone involved who could appropriately be described as “wicked.” Many bad things happened, but in EVERY case, they happened because of zeal, not wickedness. People who were close to the President did what they thought the President wanted, they all echoed his opinions and developed group-think, and they couldn’t say “NO!” *

Only one of the people reading this blog might be a presidential advisor, and Imoni is strong enough to say “No!” For the rest of us, let’s grow strong by evaluating our passions against the Biblical standards of doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly before God.

*Historical Note: A presidential candidate who claimed his vice-president would tell him “That’s a bad idea!” lost the electoral vote by a 4:1 margin.

Peace be on your household.

  1. This was an excellent post! You are correct, Imoni could very well advise a president!

  2. Making wrong decisions in group-think is fine, as long as we learn from our mistakes and take our consequences with integrity.

  3. Yes my Brother Pat, evaluating our passion against the biblical standards.

  4. Another great and insightful blog post. I do agree that people who are involved in scandals aren’t necessary evil but driven by the need to please their boss. A person who is strong in their convictions will be bold enough to say no. The presidents inner circle shouldn’t be motivated by zeal but by character.
