Tiny Devotional for Saturday, 11-06-2021

A great good morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, leftover pizza, three kinds.

A worthless person, a wicked man,
Is one who walks with a perverse mouth,
Proverbs 6:12, NASB


“How do you walk with a perverse mouth? Won’t your lips get all messed up?”

Those questions were posed for the needlessly literal among us. The answer is “Yes. Now, go away until you are ready to talk sense.”

I hope you observe that being needlessly literal is ONE way of having a perverse mouth. It calls to mind a young man I worked with in the early 1980s, who took pleasure in trying to disrupt Bible study by pretending not to understand the CLEAR meaning of the passages.

Not the primary way of having perverse mouth; just what occurred to me first.

A perverse mouth seeks confusion and chaos, not communication, as will be made clear in verses 13-15. They aren’t seeking to be funny; they seek to disrupt and disturb. A person who is a clown might also disrupt, but their payoff is laughter and approval; the payoff for the perverse mouth is anger; even, depending on the context, a fight.

Keep that in mind, when you are observing disruptive speech, verbal, written, or digital. The person with the perverse mouth is NOT your friend; in fact, the perverse mouth might not even seek friends. Allies, perhaps, at least temporarily; even those get discarded, when they longer contribute to the disruption the perverse mouth seeks. 

Here’s a shocker: the Bible doesn’t say the perverse mouth utters lies. 
It’s not CONTENT that disrupts, but INTENT.

Here’s the take-away: if the mouth is perverse, the person is worthless and wicked.

A great good morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, the Fairmount Pattersons are Papa-sitting this morning! Others were involved, and their stories are not mine to tell. So, you get a parable: Stockman Bubba ran a cattle station, in partnership with his horse, Nancy.
