Tiny Devotional for Sunday, 11-28-2021
A great good morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, I’m waiting for white bread, so I can make a sandwich.
But those who seek the Lord understand everything.
Proverbs 28:5, NASB
The end of my second life verse is “and how I may reply when I am reproved.” (Habakkuk 2:1b, NIV) It changed my entire outlook. Here’s why:
Everybody messes up. It’s NOT optional. What IS optional is our response when we are corrected. Now, correction itself is ALWAYS going to pinch, at least a little bit, because it means you were doing it wrong. So, a little ouch.
- You can reject the correction.
- You can ignore the correction.
- You can implement the correction.
Rejecting the correction mostly takes the form of making excuses, offering reasons why you think your reason is right, or sometimes denying the knowledge or authority of the person offering the correction.
Ignoring the correction should ONLY be used when the ignorant busybody offers it, and even then, not in every case; they might be right, after all.
Implementing the correction means, among other things, that you die a little bit to self; I think that those who seek the Lord should ALWAYS consider this as an option.
Evil people think they can do no wrong, and so ‘justice’ doesn’t even exist for them. That’s how you die.
“Understanding everything” includes knowing we can fall short, whether it’s by poor technique or by outright sin. That’s how you grow.
Parents, when you correct your child, and their response tells you they KNOW they deserve the correction, isn’t that a time to rejoice?
Peace be on your household.
A time to rejoice indeed! Thanks Pat!
ReplyDeleteIgnoring correction especially if the correction is right is a sign of immaturity. Good word my Brother Pat. As a parents we rejoice when our child knows their mistake and their response is good.
