Tiny Devotional for Saturday, 09-17-2022

A great good morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, toast with an egg in it, and ham.

Excellent speech is not fitting for a fool,
Much less are lying lips to a prince.
Proverbs 17:7, NASB

One reason excellent speech is not fitting for a fool is because they mess it up so badly. They use a big word, or big phrase, and it comes out wrong, and then it’s FUNNY! Examples:
“I might fade into Bolivian,” meaning oblivion.
“States are lavatories of innovation,” meaning laboratories.
Almost everything Tyler Perry’s character Madea says.
So, it isn’t fitting, but, it’s funny, and usually, all that happens is that the nature of the fool is revealed.

We chose not to use the title ‘prince’ in our government, but this verse applies to anyone in authority. And, when authority lies, it’s not funny; it’s destructive.
The fool only brings contempt on himself, the lying prince destroys the people, and destroys the confidence the people have in their government.
It’s IMPOSSIBLE to write about a prince with lying lips, and totally ignore politics, BUT I will leave explicit political interpretations to the reader.
As for me, the most I am willing to say is that I am saddened every time I discover that one person or group has slaughtered truth in order to gain or keep power.
By the way: this is not a whine about the ‘good old days.’ My firstborn son is the historian in the family, but even I know that modern shenanigans are tiny, compared to, for example, the presidential election of 1876, where our birthright was exchanged for a mess of pottage.

But we are yet holding on.

 Peace be on your household.
