Tiny Devotional for RED Friday, 05-26-2023

A great good RED Friday morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, Remember Everyone Deployed.

Like an archer who wounds everyone,
So is he who hires a fool or who hires those who pass by.

Proverbs 26:10, NASB

Observe:
It’s the employer who wounds, not the fool!

Being a fool ain’t easy. It requires frequent infusion of lots of resources to survive.

Meanwhile, the wise person knows that money earned during prosperity MUST provide for times of poverty. They make wise purchases; they save; they invest. When the day without a paycheck arrives, they have reserves to draw on.

The fool has no reserves; so hunger either TEACHES (hopefully), or KILLS (sadly). In either case, the fool no longer troubles the community.
Unless something interferes with that process, of course; enter the inspiration for today’s verse:
The Employer Of Fools (EOF).

Almost our entire environment is built around the principle of logical consequences: if you do THIS,  you will get THAT. It’s a majestically simple,  potentially brutal, structure for learning.
From
Don’t touch the hot stove!
to
Don’t touch the hot chick!
logical consequences teach us lasting lessons. At least, until EOF disturbs the flow.

EOF sends a few bucks in the direction of the fool, and permits them to keep up with foolishness, avoiding logical consequences. Result? Everyone gets wounded.

  • EOF’s wounds are wages wasted on an incompetent job.
  • The fool’s wounds are another missed opportunity to learn.
  • The community’s wounds are a more resilient fool running around.
  • And the righteous poor (who could have done the job that the fool messed up) sigh, and get on with surviving.

Can we hire one of those, next time?

Peace be on your household.
