Tiny Devotional for Wednesday, 06-07-2023

 A great good morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, the dogs snacked on peanut butter and cheese.

And behold, a woman comes to meet him,
Dressed as a harlot and cunning of heart.
Proverbs 7:10, NASB

This is the story of the gullible young man, who is carelessly wandering where he doesn’t belong. He’s also innocent, in the sense that he hasn’t done anything wrong.

Yet.

But what he actually did, was put on his suit made out of pork chops, and then dropped by the wolf camp. He was just curious to see what would happen, HONEST!

Young man, you done messed up. 

And just like you were secretly hoping, here comes trouble. Ain’t she pretty? Such fashion sense! And, providing a thrill to your heart, she approaches YOU!

Young man, you fidna mess up even worse. 

Regardless of whatever fantasy you are spinning in your brain, about taking her home to meet mama, and settling down with her, even YOU should recognize that this is NOT a settling-down woman.

If you were just a LITTLE bit wiser, you would be scared out of your wits. You would realize that you had two and only two options:

  1. Run away! Turn around, and head home, and hide under the bed, and hope your good sense arrives before you do anything else stupid.
  2. Go with her, and get yourself robbed, beaten, infected, blackmailed, and/or killed.

Sadly, dreaming of sweet kisses and other delights, this particular young man makes the second choice, thereby proving the concept that some of us serve others by providing a bad example.

This extension of the text IS informed by experience. But, I RAN!
(The first time, that is.)

Others were involved, and their stories are not mine to tell. So, you get a parable: Stockman Bubba ran a cattle station, in partnership with his horse, Nancy.  A great good morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, reach for the sky. Do not let your heart envy sinners, But live in the fear of the Lord always. Surely there is a future, And your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 23:17-18, NASB Today’s verse is 18, but I included 17, because I THINK they are a couplet. I wrote about verse 17 last month, and will try not to repeat myself. Our senses describe the present, our memory describes the past; the future is described by our hopes and our fears. In this little verse, we are given one of the strongest foundations for peace: yes, you DO have a future, and it’s a good one. Under most circumstances, we take the future for granted.
