Tiny Devotional for Wednesday, 07-28-2021
A great good morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family members who have dropped by, Tentacione tamales.
But by a person of understanding and knowledge, so it endures.
Proverbs 28:2, NASB
Despite giving me opportunities for religious practices, the study discipline I have chosen MOSTLY is beneficial, in that my brain must wrestle to find truth. I’m hoping it will stave off Alzheimer’s.
Here’s a truth I’m wrestling with today: it’s the nature of a people that brings turmoil, but it’s the nature of a leader that brings peace.
Ouch.
Even more ouch, because we ELECT our leaders. How do a rebellious people in turmoil elect a person of understanding and knowledge?
I suggest we start by not blaming the leaders for our rebellion. There are a lot of articles about how COVID and January 6 have caused anger and tension. Well, malarkey. Even a minor dive into research will show that almost all of the reported unease was present long before COVID hit, and long before Trump was elected.
“We’ve never been this divided before”? The 2000 presidential election had to be resolved in the courts; the 1960 election wasn’t resolved there because Nixon refused to challenge the results in Illinois and Texas.
Nope. I don’t think we can blame the state of things on our leaders. It’s us. Definitely us.
What can we do? Run for office? Sign a petition? Make a post on a blog?
Nope!
Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, host the stranger, visit the sick and imprisoned.
Those are the things those who were cursed DIDN’T do.
If you don’t know how, ask me; I’ll hook you up with these guys:
Peace be on your household.
If both sides could just agree to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, host the stranger, visit the sick and imprisoned what a wonderful world this could be.
