A great good morning to all my friends and neighbors in Internet Land! And to family who might drop by, Cheerios and cold brew with Boost.

The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge,
But He overthrows the words of the treacherous man.
Proverbs 21:12 NASB

In a small way, my eyes preserve knowledge: if I read something, I can remember some part of it. That part is what we retrieve later. We recall 'something about making up your mind without all the evidence;' you might not know if it's Sherlock Holmes or Bill W, but if you play around with it, you might be able to get a better picture that will lead you to find the actual source.

Our ears also preserve knowledge.  We remember music better than we remember  words. Other senses are also knowledge preservers; the smell of suntan lotion recalls a summer vacation, especially if accompanied by the feel of gritty beach sand.

Perhaps this verse is telling us that knowledge is never lost, because God has a perfect memory. Perhaps He will guide us into recalling the important things, the things He remembers even if we don't. I'm not talking about your great-uncle's recipe for ice cream; the important things are found in the relationship our ancestors had in Him.

Can He guide us into rediscovering that?

I think so, even if we might not KNOW we are doing it. We think are doing something new, when actually we are walking in the footsteps of the ancient faithful. It's more obvious with some aspects of worship; there are ancient creeds, in which we unite with those who have long since crossed the Jordan into the Promised Land.

Think of that, the next time you sing a hymn.

Peace be on your household.
